The heaviest defeat ever in La Liga is a bit of a surprise. In the 1930-1931 season, Athletic Bilbao beat Barcelona by an eleven goal margin, In a scoreline which is unthinkable these days, Bilbao striker Bata scored 7 goals past Barcelona who only managed to score once.

These days though Athletic Bilbao play second fiddle to the Catalan giants. The Basque side try to qualify for the Champions League while Barcelona expect to win the competition every year.
