#1 Sergio Aguero
Sergio Aguero is the Golden Oldie of the Premier League and he is only 30 years old. This will be his eighth season in the Premier League and the Argentine does not show any signs of stopping. Aguero has 208 appearances in the Premier League, with an astonishing 814 shots and 345 shots on target. He has scored 146 goals so far, with a 42% shooting accuracy, while missing 105 big chances.
In his first season in the premier league, Aguero scored 23 goals. The next two seasons saw a temporary dip, as he was unable to cross the 20 goal barrier. However, since the 2014/15 season, when he won the Premier League Golden Boot, Aguero has consistently crossed the 20 goal mark in the Premier League. It is this consistency that puts him in the top of our list. Harry Kane has been doing the same for Tottenham, but Aguero’s goals have been vital for his club in their quest for Trophies and it is this fact that sees the Englishman lose to the Argentine in the ranking.
Aguero scored 24 goals in the 2015/16 season, with 119 shots and 52 shots on target. The next season, he scored 20 goals, registering 139 shots, with 53 of those on target. Last season, Aguero scored 21 goals in the league, registering 94 shots and 42 shots on target. Manchester City had brought in Jesus to replace him, but Aguero has held firm in his place and has performed better than the Brazilian.
Aguero has also started the 2018/19 season on a high, with a hattrick against Huddersfield, which prompted Alan Shearer to label him as the best foreign player to ever play in the premier league. Aguero is now on 9 Premier League hat-tricks, only 2 behind Shearer’s record. The Argentine has returned from the FIFA World Cup in fabulous condition as per his Coach Pep Guardiola, after scoring 2 goals in the tournament. If the start is to go by, Aguero with his fantastic abilities should give opposing defences a lot of headaches this season. Alan Shearer summed up the Argentine with a fantastic quote – he is a striker with no weaknesses.
