#5 Juan Mata - Manchester United
How often do you see a player being named a club’s Player of the Year twice in a row before being forced out of the team in the very next season? Well, that’s what happened with Juan Mata.
Mata was named Chelsea’s player of the year in 2011-12 and 2012-13 during which the club won the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League respectively. However, when Jose Mourinho was named as the manager before the 2013-14 season, Mata suddenly found himself surplus to requirements.
The Spaniard stayed with Chelsea for half a season under Mourinho before moving to Manchester United.
Mata has been with Man Utd since January 2014 and has won the FA Cup, Europa League and League Cup with the club. Funnily, at Manchester United, he has survived one full season under Mourinho - the same manager who sold him at Chelsea.
Although Mata has been with United for more than three seasons now, he has never found the same form that made him Chelsea’s player of the year consecutively.
