The Brazilian also won the FIFA player of the year award in 2002

Ronaldo joined FC Barcelona from PSV Eindhoven for a world record fee of £19 million in 1996. He remained with the Catalans for just one season but what he achieved in that one full campaign helped him build a lifelong legacy at Nou Camp.

He was just 20 when he made a move to the Spanish giants and scored a staggering 47 goals in 49 appearances for Barcelona which helped the Catalans to the Spanish Cup and the UEFA Cup Winner's Cup.

As soon as he turned 21, Ronaldo won the FIFA player of the year award and the coveted French Football's Ballon d'Or prize in 1997 which made him the youngest recipient of the award at 21 years of age. The record still stands strong as only Michael Owen, then of Liverpool came close to snatch that record away from Ronaldo when he won the Ballon d'Or back in 2001.

Owen missed out on becoming the youngest ever Ballon d'Or winner by a couple of months.
