Tears stream down on your face when you lose something you cannot replace

Dear Didier Drogba,
Even though you said you were going to leave, I just hoped, hoped with all my heart that you would somehow or the other stay. You are the man who brought back the smile on the faces and raised the hopes of millions of Chelsea fans across the globe. When a deep hole is left and a vacuum is created, one finds it very tough to replace someone who has been the symbol for what Chelsea Football Club today stands for. A symbol of pride, honor and the attitude of never giving up.
I prayed that you would do a reverse Paul Scholes. Instead of coming back after retiring, announcing that you are going to stay with the club and the fans you love. Thinking of a starting 11 without you, makes me cringe. A man for the big occasions was not what was said when Jose Mourinho brought you from Marseille for a modest fee of 24 million which seems to be a joke now as you have been priceless for the club over the years.
Regarded as a late bloomer, you reached your prime under Jose Mourinho after being called a very “poor” transfer. Fans would remember how, when the season started, you and Frank Lampard were being called on by pundits to hang up your boots and call it a day. But both of you have never looked back, no matter how tough things got and that’s what makes me proud to call you my idol. The moment when you went over to the crowd and drew 26 in the air as a tribute to John Terry is not what you see many players do for their captains. As you headed in that goal, I knew something greats awaits you and us in the future.
From ” Who is this guy?” to ” God! You don’t know him”? you have been a source of relief to us fans in our path of silencing our rivals when they called us a pathetic club. The courage you have shown, the performances you have given at the age of 34 when people expect you to cause mishaps puts players like Messi and Ronaldo to shame. Day in and day out you have been a source of excitement and pride and once again it just doesn’t feel right to say you no longer play for my favorite club.
The penalties you conceded were sources of luck as Messi and Robben both found their penalties saved. Controversies have played a bit-time part in your life, from the Moscow red card in 2008 to the Barcelona outburst in 2009. We covered our eyes in horror at Naples but you showed us the true passion of being a Chelsea fan in the second leg. Your goal against Barcelona was the icing on the cake and the cherry on top awaited you in Munich. I knew you would score, I knew you would make the headlines and I knew you would make history again with Chelsea on the 19th of May 2012. Rewinding your career all the way back to 2004, you can clearly see its dotted with glory and that is something we won’t forget.
Why did you leave when Chelsea were at the peak of glory? Why won’t you give us another chance to sing your name? It breaks my heart to see you leave your shirt in the locker room of Stamford Bridge. I bow my head in shame because I will never consider myself worthy enough to write to someone like you. If I ever got the chance to, my words would be plaited in gold as summarizing your career in less than 800 words is an insult to what the beautiful game stands for.
As I try to wipe away my tears, I want to let you know that you’ll always be in my heart. Forever etched in the abyss of love. Peter Osgood will always be the King of Stamford Bridge but if there ever was a Prince it would be Prince Didier Drogba. As I open my eyes to reality I wish you all the best in China and hope that you’ll sooner or later realise that you just cant forget us. Your blood will always be blue!
Gone but never forgotten. Keep the blue flag flying high Didier !
