Dear Mancs,
Thanks for your letter and all the backhanded complements, you were true to your style. For years, we have seen you dominate the English game. We remember how you outspent us to get hold of Ronaldo, how you spent 30 million pounds (double our current record) to land Rio Ferdinand in 2002, 25 million on Tevez and so on.
So I find it rather amusing, that you should now see big spending as something immoral or unfair. Yes, Arsenal fans cry about it too but we have earned the right to do so. For us, there is little difference between you, your neighbours and Chelsea in terms of spending. As for parking the bus, need I remind you about the string of 1-0s that won you the 2007-08 title? Even today you scrape narrow victories by relying on penalties, red cards and the like and claim it to be a mark of champions. You are not exactly easy on the eye either. When the going gets tough, the likes of Scholes and Fletcher resort to the thuggish tactics that somehow the referees overlook.
With regards to your call for allegiance, I think you don’t need any more allies. Your manager has plenty of former players who now manage Premier League clubs and roll over like faithful dogs to gift you 6 points every season. You have allies in the referees who do everything in their power to help you win. You are even given more time to recover in case you are behind after the 90 minutes are up.
I agree that Man City and Chelsea spend to get an unfair advantage, but find it funny that you of all clubs are whining about it. I don’t like losing to those two teams, but I also love it when they do to you what you did to us. I particularly enjoyed the 6-1 thrashing at your home ground by your neighbors.
I wonder why you would even write such a letter. An alliance for what? Is it because all the rival fans called you out on the referees’ bias? I know perfectly well why the relationship between us has warmed. It was because we were no longer a threat to you. But now it seems your motivation to be friendly has changed. I know you feel insecure in the face of greater powers and need some sympathy. But you are not going to get it here, not after all the years of gloating and arrogance. Enjoy a taste of your own medicine!
Sincerely,
The Emirates.
