Eric Abidal has told a French radio station that it was “difficult to accept” the fact that Barcelona did not offer him a new contract.
A tearful Abidal made an announcement that Saturday’s League game against Malaga will be his last for the club as his current deal would not be extended by the Catalan giants .
Abidal, 33, made 124 appearances for Barca in his seven-year stint with the club.
Abidal, who battled liver cancer and a subsequent transplant, hoped to end his career at Nou Camp, but that was not to be.
“I didn’t take a decision because when your contract isn’t renewed, you don’t have a choice,” Abidal said. “The club’s decision is difficult to accept because part of my battle was for my family but also for the club.
“I would have liked to have finished my career or had another year here at Barcelona. I respect the choice of the club, the staff and the board. I leave with six years of happiness, titles and good friends.”
