In the aftermath of the controversial top of the table clash between Chelsea and Manchester United this Sunday, Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler made his feelings known via his Twitter profile moments ago.
In an end to end battle at Stamford Bridge, referee Mark Clattenburg controversially sent off two Chelsea players – Brainslav Ivanovic and Fernando Torres, before allowing Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez to score the winner late into the match from an seemingly offside position.
Heated arguments followed between the Chelsea officials and referee, soon after the match and hours later the club confirmed that they have officially lodged a complain against the referee for using “inappropriate language” on two separate occasions against two different Chelsea players.
However today, Robbie Fowler, the veteran forward from Merseyside, rushed into the defense of the under-fire referee as he announced his support for Clattenburg on his twitter profile merely 20 minutes ago.
“What’s the ref clattenburg supposed to have said ! Absolute no chance a ref would racially abuse a player….” – he said.
It thus begs the question on what exactly may have happened on that night and whether the Chelsea officials would go on to an extent to in fact lodge a ‘false’ complaint. There is certainly a huge cloud of doubt around the whole situation!
Earlier in the day, the Metropolitan Police had announced that they have themselves launched an investigation into the alleged comments by referee Mark Clattenburg towards the Chelsea players.
