Liverpool and AC Milan are often found head to head during the transfer window and this time around the duo are ready to battle it out for Ajax winger Anwar El Ghazi. The news comes just 24 hours after reports suggested that both clubs are fighting it out to sign Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes of Roma.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly keen on signing the 21-year old midfielder, who scored 11 goals in 27 appearances for the Dutch outfit last season. However, Liverpool are not the only club interested in signing the player.
Earlier reports suggest that AC Milan have been offered the player by his agent Jorge Mendes. Milan had scouted the player heavily in January and reports suggest that the super-agent proposed a deal only recently and Milan are weighing their options.
The player’s excellent displays last season is bound to attract interest from different clubs and according to Tuttosport Serie A side Lazio too are interested in signing the player.
El Ghazi joined Ajax from Sparta Rotterdam in July 2013 and made his official debut for the Dutch club during the 2014-2015 campaign. The 21-year-old can play in the right-wing, left-wing and as a centre-forward. He has 21 goals and 10 assists to his credit during his two seasons at Ajax, making 58 appearances altogether.
The player is known for his exceptional ability to dribble and is quick, too. He is found lacking in discipline and defensive contribution, though.
Reports suggest that Ajax are willing to start negotiations for the 21-year-old at £15m, and as of now Liverpool, AC Milan and Lazio are keeping close tabs on the situation.
Liverpool have already brought in eight new players to the squad this summer and the Reds manager Jurgen Klopp looks to add a few more. However, the German manager already has a host of attacking midfielders at his disposal with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana, James Milner, Lazar Markovic and new signings of the summer Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum.
AC Milan are weighing their options and were earlier reported to be interested in Chelsea’s Juan Cuadrado, however, El Ghazi has been offered to them by the super-agent and they are keen on sealing the deal.
