The race for promotion in Group B1 of the UEFA Nations League continues as Albania and Ukraine lock horns at the Air Albania Stadium on Tuesday. There are just three points between the four sides in the standings, setting up a nail-biting end to the group campaign.
Albania’s dreams of securing promotion into League A suffered a major blow at the weekend when they were held to a goalless draw by the Czech Republic at home.
Before that, Sylvinho’s men had snapped their run of two consecutive defeats in Group B1 on October 14, when they edged out Georgia 1-0 thanks to a second-half strike from Inter Milan midfielder Kristjan Asllani.
Albania have picked up seven points from their five Nations League games to sit third in the group standings, level on points with second-placed Georgia and three points behind leaders Czech Republic.
Like Tuesday’s hosts, Ukraine were dealt a huge blow in Group B1 on Saturday when they played out a 1-1 draw with Georgia after conceding a 76th-minute equalizer by Euro 2024 hero Georges Mikautadze.
Before that, Serhiy Rebrov’s men had snapped their two-game losing run with a 1-0 win over Georgia on October 11, three days before holding out for a 1-1 draw against Czech Republic.
Ukraine are currently rooted to the bottom of the group table with five points from a possible 15 but could surge into second place with all three points and favorable results in the other group fixture on Tuesday.
