Barcelona fullback Aleix Vidal has said that he hopes that Zinedine Zidane fails as a manager at Real Madrid. However, he accepted the fact that he is a fan of the Frenchman, like many others, but he cannot wish him luck with his job at Santiago Bernabeu.
The midfielder, who played for Madrid from 2001 to 2006 is considered as a legend. He won a La Liga title and the Champions League during his time at the Bernabeu. The 43-year-old recently replaced Rafael Benitez as the head coach, after the club suffered a bad run of form under the leadership of the Spaniard and reportedly, he even had a fallout with some of the stars at Madrid, most importantly Cristiano Ronaldo.
Zidane burst on the scene as the new manager after his side had a decisive 5-0 win against the Spanish side Deportivo la Coruna. It was Zidane’s first match as manager of Real Madrid. The team scored five more goals in Zidane’s second match in charge, as they swept past Sporting Gijon 5-1.
Aleix Vidal was recently registered as a Barcelona player after the transfer ban on the Catalan club was lifted. He joined the Blaugrana from Sevilla in the summer transfer window. The defender admired Zidane as a player but said that he cannot wish that the Frenchman goes on to be successful with Madrid
"They seem to have had a good start, but the titles get handed out at the end of the season.
"I hope he does not win any. I've always been a big fan of Zidane, but now I cannot wish him any luck," he said.
Zidane has full faith in the squad that has been left behind by his predecessor, Benitez. The manager had only concerns over the fitness of his players as he said recently that he thinks that his players are not physically fit to face the giants in the game.
The Frenchman already has a plan to bring back the required level of fitness and has started working towards the fulfilment of that plan.
In training, you can see Leo is the best: Vidal
Quite naturally Vidal is excited to play with the widely-regarded best footballer in the planet Lionel Messi. The Argentine also won his fifth Ballon d’Or this year. Vidal feels that he can only improve playing alongside the maestro.
"Virtually all the players here are the best in the world," he added. "You can learn a lot from them.
"In training you can see that Leo is the best. When you are face to face with him you know you have few options."
