Algiers, Aug 28 (IANS) Chief coach of the Algerian football team Milovan Rajevac has said he needs time and support in order to cultivate his strategy into his team and lead the North African side to success.

The Serbian coach, who took over his new job as head coach of the Greens of Algeria, further urged the media, soccer officials and fans to be patient and wait for six months to see a new look national team, reports Xinhua.

"I need time to put forward my style of play in the Algerian squad," Rajevac told a press conference in Algiers on Saturday.

"I also need the help and support of all actors in Algerian football arena," he added.

Rajevac was appointed in his new job in late June replacing Frenchman Christian Gourcuff who resigned on April 3.

The first test of the Serbian coach will be on September 4 as Algeria is due to face Lesotho in Blida, 50 km south-west of Algiers, part of the last round of CAN-2017 qualifiers.

This game will be without stake for the Algerians who have already booked their ticket in the African Cup due in Gabon on January 2017.

The new coach's contract signed with the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) stipulates that his squad will reach the semi-finals in the CAN 2017, and qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Algeria are drawn in Group B in World Cup 2018 with Cameroon, Nigeria and Zambia.
