Champions League Round Of 16 First Leg, 14th February 2018, Liverpool FC 5 – 0 FC Porto
Last year, Liverpool were quite a force in the Champions League as they kept hammering teams for plenty throughout the competition. Jurgen Klopp’s side was on a roll and putting to the sword anyone that came up against his highly intense Merseyside unit. Liverpool drew Porto once again in the Round Of 16 to ensure a safe passage through to the quarterfinals.
The Reds ran rampant through a helpless Porto side at the Estadio Do Dragao as all three of Liverpool’s attacking players got their names on the scoresheet in a 5-0 drubbing of their opponents. Senegalese forward Sadio Mane helped himself to a hat-trick while Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah grabbed a goal each to ensure that the job for the second leg was also pretty much completed.
Champions League Round Of 16 Second Leg, 6th March 2018, Liverpool FC 0 -0 FC Porto
After the rout in Porto, Jurgen Klopp could afford to rest some of his key players for the remainder of the competition as Dejan Lovren and Loris Karius were the only two out of the five in the back line that was chosen to play. Even Mohamed Salah deserved a break despite the Egyptian being at his goalscoring peak at the time. However, it all ended goalless at Anfield with Liverpool winning the tie 5-0 on aggregate against the Portuguese side.
Once again Liverpool reached the final of the Champions League and faced La Liga giants Real Madrid. The Anfield faithful suffered heartache in Kiev as German goalkeeper Loris Karius produced two blunders handing Madrid their 13th title and put to end his teams fantastic run in the competition.
