Madrid, Feb 4 (IANS): Real Madrid soccer star Xabi Alonso pulled out of the Spanish team for the international friendly against Uruguay slated for Wednesday.
Alonso, who played in Madrid’s 0-1 defeat in Granada Saturday night has been forced out of the game after suffering a pelvic injury.
“At the end of the game, the Real Madrid medical services got in contact with those of the Spanish football Federation (RFEF) to indicate the condition of the player, who felt serious problems in his pelvic area,” explained a communique issued by the Real Madrid press office.
Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has called Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez into the squad to replace Alonso, who is also doubtful for the next Primera Liga game at home against Sevilla next weekend.
Spain’s friendly against Uruguay slated for Wednesday night will be played in Qatar.
