Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo has revealed that he could have joined Everton last year, had he been open to a winter move away from Sevilla. The Spaniard joined Manchester City from Sevilla in the summer, but admitted that he had the chance to move to England six months sooner. However he told reporters that he wasn’t interested in a mid-season move, and didn’t consider the opportunity to move to England.
Negredo has scored eight league goals in his maiden Premier League season, having notched 70 in his 139 Sevilla appearances. He scored 25 in 36 La Liga games last season, and insisted that he didn’t contemplate leaving the club until the summer.
“There were some rumours about a move to Everton but I just wanted to finish the season with Sevilla,” he said.
“I wanted to wait until it got to the summer before I started looking at other options. I never really considered the possibility of moving in January.”
Negredo’s eight league goals puts him five behind striker partner Sergio Aguero, and Negredo admitted that he has a way to go if he is to catch City’s top scorer, who has missed the last four league games through injury.
“I need to get more and catch him up because I know when he comes back he will score more goals.”
Alvaro Negredo has a shot accuracy of 59% this season.
