West Ham-linked Massimo Ambrosini has said that he would welcome interest from Fiorentina after being released by AC Milan after 18 years at the club.

Ambrosini was one of Milan’s key players but was released in controversial fashion by the Serie A giants last week.

The 36-year-old has since been linked with a move to West Ham, but at a press conference Friday Ambrosini said he would not be against a move to La Viola, who will play in the Europa League next season.

“Fiorentina are a great club, they have a great coach and are ambitious,” Ambrosini said. “If they put something on the table I would listen to their offer.”

Ambrosini had to fight back the tears as he paid tribute to Milan, despite finding out only last week that his contract, which ends this month, would not be renewed.

Describing his time at Milan as “marvellous”, Ambrosini added: “This isn’t easy. I’m emotional.

“I wanted to wait a few days before talking to make sure I didn’t say something in the heat of the moment that wouldn’t have done justice to my 18 years with the club.

“I would have liked to have been told of the decision differently…

“But life goes on. I’m still a player and I’ve still got something to offer. And I’m not leaving Milan feeling angry.”

Ambrosini made 489 appearances for the Rossoneri, scoring 36 goals and lifting the Italian cup, two Italian Super Cups, two Champions League titles, two European Super Cups and one Club World Cup.
