This was written by me way back in July 2010 at the conclusion of the World Cup which was won by Spain, dedicated to all those who love the beautiful game and are passionate about it. Here it goes :
Every 4 years comes a carnival never seen beforethe stage sometimes is set in Africa, Asia, South America and sometimes in Europethe hysteria, the exuberance, the enthusiasm of the human race is seen like never beforeof course it is the beautiful game and I am fan of it to the corethe songs are rewritten,so is the historywho will win the eluded cup till last remains a mystery
You can call me an idle fool who wastes his timebut such is it’s attraction that I have to write the poem even though it hardly rhymethere are several reasons for my keen watchingthe beauty of game is the first, the second is beautiful women with their country flags wavingthe intense rivalry between players is the third, sometimes I watch it for else’s sakeit’s a pure joy to see players dribbling with so much at stake
The world of football is studded with galaxy of starsThey play with hefty pay and flashing carsRooney, Ronaldo, Torres, Villa, Klose keep the European flag highMessi, Kaka,Robinho,Forlan have skills that make people sighEvery World Cup a new addition to the game is madeNew highs are reached, shameful acts are done and records are made
The month long frenzy ends with many a hearts brokenbut for some it brings unparalleled joy, for some their faith shakentheir are no alternatives winning is the only choiceelse you are boycotted and people make bad noiseas the month comes to an end i feel excited yet sadwhen will I next talk about the game with passion with my dad
The world cup symbolizes a mix of identities and languagesthe performance of players is measured on different gaugesthis time for Africa says Shakira’s waka wakathe American burger is tossed with Chinese hakkathen there is celebration mix by K’nan of waving flagwhere else on world can you find this amalgam of white and black
