Spurs are preparing to offer Bayern Munich £7m for striker Mario Gomez, 27, who now appears to be surplus to requirements at the German club.
What’s the story? Good luck with that paltry offer. Spurs need a proper striker and Gomez is very much that. All they need is someone to put the ball in the net, and Gomez is the arch penalty box poacher.
Does it make sense? Yes, football wise. However, Italian sources say that he has negotiated terms with Napoli who have Champions League football to offer him. If Spurs do keep Bale though, he can’t turn them down.
Is the price right? No. Spurs would be in dreamland if this was accepted. Bayern have set a price of £18m which is more than fair.
Will it happen? 4/10 – If they keep Bale then he’d give him endless supply. However, a move to replace Cavani at Napoli makes more sense to get him Champions League football and a chance at making a loaded Germany squad for the World Cup.
Fenerbahce hope to entice Tottenham left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto, 29, to Turkey via a £6m deal. The defender is out of contract in 2015.
What’s the story? Fenerbahce were overtaken by Galatasaray last season and want to fight back. They’ve already signed Bruno Alves and must see Assou-Ekotto as the next piece for their defence.
Does it make sense? 50:50. He’s not playing at the levels he was a couple of seasons ago but is still a decent performer. Villas-Boas seems to like Kyle Naughton too.
Is the price right? £6m is about right.
Will it happen? 7/10 – He’s not the nailed on starter he was and might want a nice pay rise from a game he openly plays solely for professional reasons.
