Manchester United’s Ander Herrera took to Twitter before Wednesday’s Champions League fixtures to field some questions regarding all things football. Having been given some time off after United’s 2-1 FA Cup semi-final win over Everton, Herrera tweeted: “Got any questions? Am chilling at home right now and will do my best to answer. Cheers!”
More than happy to answer the flood of questions that ensued, Herrera did an impressive job by replying to as many tweets as he could.
Answering questions such as which trophy he would like to win most (Champions League), and who the best player he’s played with is (David De Gea), fans will be most keen to hear what the Spaniard had to say about the prospect of Cristiano Ronaldo returning to the club and De Gea’s contract situation.
When asked if fellow Spaniard David De Gea would be leaving for Real Madrid next season, Herrera gave a blunt response:
Fans were not too excited by Herrera’s vague answer about De Gea, who was on the brink of an exit at the beginning of the season. After a summer of speculation regarding his future, a £29 million deal was made between Real Madrid and Manchester United for De Gea, which included the exchange of goalkeeper Keylor Navas. The transfer was not completed before the Spanish transfer window closed, however, and it’s believed that a faulty fax machine was at fault, though both clubs blamed each other for the deal not going through.
When asked if former Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo could return to the club, Herrera made his answer clear:
Rumours have constantly circulated about a possible Manchester United return for Ronaldo, who has now scored 40 goals in six consecutive seasons for Real Madrid. While Manchester United apparently tried to re-sign the player in 2013 and last year, the player has re-iterated his desire to play for Real Madrid several times and has said he wants to end his career at the club.
Despite claiming that he would like to see Ronaldo back at the club, Herrera will be sure to stir up rumours after he answered that he would most like to play alongside Ronaldo’s biggest rival.
The Spaniard also appears to be a fan of Tottenham’s Harry Kane, even rating him over some of the Premier League’s biggest stars.
While also replying that he most admired Paul Scholes as a child and isn’t yet sure if David De Gea is human, Herrera said he was hopeful of winning the FA Cup and said while he believes Leicester City deserve to win the Premier League, he hopes it doesn’t happen at Old Trafford this weekend. Leicester City need just three points to win the Premier League and will look to claim those three points when they take on Manchester United this Sunday.
Top 4 Hopes
Not just keeping his opinion to Twitter, the Spaniard reiterated his desire to beat Leicester and make the top four when speaking at a Manchester United Foundation event on Friday.
“First of all I have to say that we think about Manchester United, we are still in the race, we have to be in the top four it's very important for us," Herrera told Sky Sports News HQ.
"After that it is true that we are playing against Leicester, a very good side who are playing fantastic. But we don't want them to win the title at Old Trafford - I think they deserve to win the league but I hope they can do it at home.”
