David Moyes’ hopes of making a major signing before the end of transfer window has taken a big blow after Athletic Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde revealed that Ander Herrera is unlikely to join the Red Devils.
“I haven’t spoken with the player but what I’m going to repeat is that I don’t expect the club to make any moves in the transfer market on Monday. I do not know what will happen. I want Ander to stay with us, and that is what I think, expect will happen,” he said.
Herrera was left out of Bilbao’s match against Real Madrid but the manager said that the Manchester United rumours were not the reason for him to drop the player.
“It had nothing to do with the bid from Manchester United, I left him out because I chose the players I thought were best suited to the game,” he added.
Herrera joined Bilbao from Zaragoza in 2011 for €8 million and has been subject to heavy interest from the English champions who are believed to be preparing to meet his buyout clause of €36 million.
