German international Andre Schurrle has congratulated his Chelsea teammates asBrazil beat Chile on penalties following a tense affair in Belo Horizonte.
Brazil beat Chile 3-2 from the spot after finishing the 90 minutes and extra time drawn at 1-1. David Luiz opened the scoring after 17 minutes, after connecting with a flick-on from his new Paris Saint-Germain teammate, Thiago Silva.
Not long after that, though, Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez levelled the scores after Hulk was poor in possession outside his own penalty area. The first half was fantastic, with dramatic end-to-end action from both teams.
However, the second half wasn’t much of an affair as both sides tired and the tension and nerves built among the crowd and players. Extra time was the same until the final minute as Mauricio Pinilla smashed a shot against the crossbar in the dying seconds of extra time, and subsequently sent the match to penalties.
Oscar, Willian, Luiz and Ramires all played for Brazil as Schurrle, signed for £18 million from Bayer Leverkusen in 2013, congratulated his teammates.
Schurrle is a part of the Germany squad who face Algeria in the last-16 on Monday and the Germans are one of the favourites for the World Cup.
