Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has blasted his critics over the decision to allow goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to play on after being knocked unconscious at the weekend.
Lloris collided with Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and suffered a blow to the head, which knocked him out for a period, but refused to be substituted.
The Portuguese coach has received plenty of criticism in the days that followed for his role in allowing Lloris to play on, but insists that he still stands by his decision.
“I stand by the decision I took and I stand by the decision made by my medical staff,” said Villas-Boas. ”They did everything by the book.
“A couple of people used this as an opportunity to get some publicity. They have no experience on the pitch of these situations.
“It is not comparable to NFL or rugby. It is not comparable to Petr Cech. It astonishes me that it is trying to be put in the same mode as these situations.”
Villas-Boas also fired a parting shot to Lukaku, whose knee impacted with Lloris’ head, claiming that the Belgian could have avoided the collision.
“I don’t want to question Lukaku because he is a good young player. But I think he could have jumped over Hugo.”
This season, Lloris has made 23 saves, in his ten Premier League games this term.
