Andy Cole has claimed that David Moyes was always destined to be a disaster at Manchester United, as the transition from the reign of Sir Alex Ferguson was always going to be a problem once results went awry.
Moyes was sacked just ten months into his tenure at Old Trafford as United finished seventh in the league, missing out on Champions League football for the first time in 18 years and failing to qualify for European competition altogether.
The signing of Marouane Fellaini proved Moyes’ first Man United error into he eyes of many and he never recovered, with United enduring their worst home record in the Premier League era before the Scotsman received the boot, with Louis van Gaal set to take over for next season.
Cole was unsurprised that Moyes proved such a spectacular flop in his brief reign however, feeling that unless things started perfectly instantly, he was always doomed to fail in his succession of the legendary Ferguson.
Cole told the Daily Express, “I think they made up their minds geared on results and performances.
“They went from playing one way and winning, to playing another way and losing, not playing attractive football – that doesn’t make anybody happy.
“The fans have watched Sir Alex Ferguson do it for 20 odd years, playing a certain brand of football and winning.
“If Moyes had got the results, it would have been different. But not getting results and people not liking the way you play football is always going to be a recipe for disaster.”Manchester United blocked 100 shots as a team in the 2013/14 season.
