Angel Di Maria completed a move from Manchester United to Paris Saint-Germain for a reported fee of £44 million. He wrote an open letter to the club and its fans in the aftermath of the announcement. Having received a lot of flak for his behaviour during the negotiation, having had a poor season with the English giants by his standards, the Argentine winger attempted to justify his performances and the decision to make the switch.
The now PSG player thanked United and its fans for the support he received during his tumultuous year at the club. He also acknowledged that his performances were not up to the high standards at Old Trafford but added that it wasn't for a lack of trying. He insisted that during his time with the English giants he gave his best but “football is not like maths,” there are many variables that cannot be controlled.

To Manchester United:
I write this note to thank all the Manchester United family for the great support received during the year I’ve been part of this Club.
When Manchester United chose me as part of their team I felt extremely honoured because I knew what this Club means and how it trusted me.
Nevertheless, I’m aware things didn’t work as we all expected and believe me, I feel really sorry about it. However in the career of a football player sometimes the unexpected and unwanted may happen.
I can guarantee you it was not for trying. I did my best but football is not like maths: often a lot of things out of our control affect the way we feel and the way things turn out. I am sorry it did not work out as I would have wished in this amazing huge club.
I want to give special thanks to all the Directors and Management of Manchester United as well as to every member of the staff and colleagues as they gave me all their support. Also a special mention to all the fans who always trusted me and showed me their respect and love.
Now is time to move to PSG but the Glorious Manchester United Club will be forever in my memory!
Wish you all the best in the world.
With best regards,
Angel Di Maria
Anger towards Di Maria’s behaviour
During the summer, Di Maria travelled to Chile to participate in the Copa America 2015 with Argentina. He was a vital cog in their machine that went all the way to the final when he sustained an injury in the final and Argentina would lose to Chile and face another huge disappointment having lost the World Cup final in 2014 to Germany as well.
However, when the time came to return to the club for training after a short break, Di Maria went missing and United coach Louis van Gaal insisted that he did not know where he was. It enraged not just the manager but the fans as well. Di Maria then reportedly travelled to Qatar for his medical without the English club's permission, which just added fuel to the fire burning against Di Maria.
The long saga has finally come to a close with the transfer but if the Paris outfit were to meet United in the Champions League, there is little doubt about how the fans would feel about the Argentine.
