Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes that Real Madrid midfielder Angel Di Maria suits the Red Devils philosophy.
The Argentina international, who has been linked with a summer move to Old Trafford, produced an outstanding display in the El Clasico on Sunday, despite Lionel Messi’s hat-trick having given Barcelona a dramatic 4-3 victory.
The arrival of Gareth Bale in the summer, coupled with Cristiano Ronaldo’s unfaltering form, seemed to spell the end of Di Maria’s career at the Bernabeu.
With no space for him in the team in his preferred position as a winger, the 26-year-old has gone on to flourish elsewhere in a midfield three alongside Xabi Alonso and Luka Modric.
Neville believes Di Maria’s style is well suited to the one that United traditionally employ, as he produced moments of outstanding wide and counter attacking play throughout the match.
However, although United chief David Moyes was rumoured to be interested in the Argentine earlier in the season, his resurgence in recent weeks means that Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is unlikely to sanction a transfer.
