Manchester United and Argentina midfielder Angel Di Maria has revealed that he is delighted to have joined Paris Saint German from Manchester United. The 27-year-old has completed his medical in Qatar on Tuesday and an imminent deal of £44.3m is expected to go through.
Di Maria arrived at the Old Trafford from Real Madrid last season after winning the Champions League with the La Liga giants. The former Madrid star became the most expensive British acquisition after United president Ed Woodward splashed out a record-breaking £59.7m to land him on English soil.
However, the Albiceleste star never found his feet in the Premier League as he endured a frustrating season under manager Louis Van Gaal. In a total of 32 games he featured in, Di Maria managed to find the back of the net only on four occasions. He eventually lost his place in the starting XI after recurring injuries and thus ended an unsettled first season in England.
Di Maria has his eyes set on Champions League again
But Di Maria looks ready to put all of that behind him as he hopes to do well in the Champions League with the French champions. Talking to BeIN Sports, he said, "I am very happy to join Paris St-Germain. They're very important."
"They made it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, so my objective was to arrive to Paris and to help them through the quarter-final barrier, because they have struggled in the past two seasons.
"I will try to do the best I can to help the club in those objectives and reach the final stages of the Champions League."
There has been no official word from both the clubs regarding this matter. It was, however, confirmed by Aspetar, a specialist sports hospital in Doha, who revealed on Twitter that the player was there on Tuesday "for a medical test ahead of a proposed move".
This move was imminent considering how the Argentina international missed the pre-season tour in US with United. When asked about his whereabouts, Van Gaal replied that he didn’t know where he was.
With Di Maria’s departure confirmed, United will be pushing further to acquire one of their prime targets Pedro in this summer transfer window. The Barcelona man who has fallen down the pecking order in Catalonia is said to be under the Dutch manager’s radar.
