Universidad de Chile forward Ángelo Henríquez arrived at Bridgewater Hospital ahead of a medical that, if successful, would see the Chilean youngster join Manchester United for 4 millions pounds. United have had a first option deal available for the striker since 2009 that is due to last to 2014, but United have seemingly taken the option up early because of interest from other clubs including Manchester City.
Although the news that we’ve taken up the option to sign the youngster isn’t surprising, the timing of it certainly is. With reports that we’re close to a deal with Arsenal for Robin van Persie increasing, this move came out of the blue – but it doesn’t mean it’s not a good one. We’re strong upfront at the moment but, with Henríquez still young, the future upfront is looking good in the future. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him loaned back to his original club for the time being.
