Angola and Namibia kick off their 2024 COSAFA Cup campaign when they lock horns on horns at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Friday (June 28). The two nations have been drawn in Group C, alongside Seychelles and 2023 finalists Lesotho.
Despite naming a strong squad for the 2023 COSAFA Cup, Angola were condemned to a disappointing group-stage exit last year. While the Palancas Negras secured a 4-2 victory over Lesotho in their group finale, it was not enough to see them through to the knockouts, having managed just one point in their opening two games.
Angola, meanwhile, head into their group opener with one loss in 11 competitive matches — winning five since July 2023. Like Angola, Namibia will look to surpass their 2023 COSAFA Cup run, where they suffered a group-stage exit last year. The Brave Warriors picked up just two points from three games to finish rock-bottom in Group A, two points behind second-placed Botswana.
Namibia, though, are winless in five matches, losing twice, including a 3-0 defeat to Angola in the Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 in January.
