Manchester United starlet Anthony Martial has claimed he can lead his club to this season’s Premier League and Champions League title, as per the reports on Manchester Evening News. United’s new striker has got high hopes for the Red Devils following his deadline day move from AS Monaco.
The young french teenager has kickstarted his United career by scoring four goals this season including an incredible solo effort in a derby match against the club’s bitter rivals Liverpool. The fact that the 19-year-old scored against ‘the enemy’ in his debut match has helped him settle down at Old Trafford so quickly.
Martial became the most expensive teenager in the world after his £36m move from Monaco on deadline day. But it appears as though the French international is least bothered about the hefty price tag United had to pay to seal his signature. He is now looking to build on his good start and make it a memorable year for his new club.
The former Monaco player has made bold claims that Louis van Gaal’s men can win both domestic and European silverware this term.
“I think we can win the Premier League and the Champions League this season,” Martial told French TV show Telefoot. “Both of them. We are among the top five clubs (in Europe).
“It is going well so far. I have had a great welcome from the fans. I don't think about my price on the pitch.
“The goal against Liverpool, the big enemy of the club, allowed the fans to get to know me a bit better.”
Martial and his club are currently sitting third in the Premier League table after eight games, level on points with Arsenal who defeated them by scoring three unanswered goals last week. Despite their defeat to the Gunners, they are still in a good position to challenge for the title this season as they look to put an end to their two-year year trophy drought.
Martial impresses French manager Didier Deschamps
No doubt Martial has impressed many of the Old Trafford faithful with his blistering start to the season, but he has also been impressive for his national side which has earned him praise from the coach himself, Didier Deschamps.
“He has the potential,” Deschamps said. “Everybody is surprised by what he is doing at United but that's good for him and good for us. He deserves to be here.
“It was anything but easy after everything that has been written and said about him. It has silenced a few people. He's young, he may have more complicated times.
“He's able to make great things happen. He did in Monaco. He's doing it now in a club at another level so it is easier to pay attention to his performances. He's always been talented, though,” he concluded.
