Manchester United starlet Anthony Martial has rejected comparisons with the former Arsenal player Thierry Henry and insisted he still has a lot to prove despite the remarkable start to his Manchester United career. However, the Frenchman has admitted the fact that he hopes to emulate the legendary striker.
The former AS Monaco forward has made a blistering start to his life at Old Trafford and has begun proving the doubters wrong when his £36-million move was questioned by many. Martial has already scored four goals for United since arriving from the Ligue 1 club.
The 19-year-old has impressed the Premier League fans with his pace, movement, technique and calmness in front of goal which has seen him being compared to the four-time Premier League golden boot winner. Martial, however, believes he is still some way below the level of his countrymen.
“Thierry Henry? I know this is a very great player who is a legend in England.” Martial said on French TV channel BFM,
“I have everything left to prove. By continuing to work, I will try to reach his level.
"But at the moment, I'm still far from it."
Unfortunately, Martial failed to register a goal this weekend and his team suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday. The Red Devils have now gone down to third spot in the league table while Manchester City have reclaimed their spot on top of the table.
Martial wins the PFA Fan’s Player of the Month award for September
Fans across the UK had been given the opportunity to vote for their player of the month after a shortlist of contenders was produced by an expert panel. And the Manchester United striker has won the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award for September after scoring four goals this season so far, according to Mirror.
The 19-year-old was up against Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez and West Ham new signing Dimitri Payet for the award, who have both made an impressive debut season in the league. The Frenchman’s heroics in his debut match was enough for him to steal the prize away from the hands of the other two nominees.
Martial had announced himself to the Old Trafford faithful with almost a Henry-esque solo strike in the 3-1 win over rivals Liverpool earlier this season. It was then followed up with a brace in their away trip to the St. Mary’s Stadium, with Martial also collecting the man of the match award for his display against Sunderland.
