Anzhi Makhachkala team director and Brazil legend Roberto Carlos has revealed that the cash-rich Russian club are considering a monster bid for Manchester United‘s Wayne Rooney.
According to the left-back, the Russian club’s billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimov is ready to splash some serious cash on a few of Europe’s biggest names in his efforts to lure them to Russia, with Rooney being high on the priority list.
When asked if Rooney featured in their plans, Carlos said: “Why not? He’s one of the best players in the world and any team would be happy to have him in their squad.
“He’s still a very young player. Of course I could not say when, and if, it will happen.”
Anzhi currently have in their roster the likes of Samuel Eto’o, Christopher Samba, Yuri Zhirkov and Lassana Diarra, all of whom demand massive salary packages. Carlos however felt that the club’s owner was nowhere near done yet.
“This person (Kerimov) is capable of doing everything. If the owner of Anzhi has a wish to buy somebody, he will go and do it.”
It still seems unlikely that Rooney would leave Manchester United, but with the striker unable to play in his preferred position due to the arrival of Robin van Persie at Old Trafford, and his reluctance to move to another Premier League club, a move to Eastern Europe surely cannot be ruled out at the moment.
