Brazil international, Willian Borges da Silva has urged Liverpool to sign him from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala and put an end to his miserable stay with the Russian club.
The attacking midfielder is left helpless after Anzhi’s billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimov dramatically decided to stall all his investments and ordered all the players be shipped out due to financial difficulties.
Willian arrived at the club in January from Shakhtar Donetsk for a substantial fee of £30m, but now is in desperate need for a new club in what is a crucial season, with the World Cup looming in his home country next year.
Now, according to Daily Mirror, Liverpool are considering a move, and though no formal bid has been lodged as of yet, the Brazilian playmaker is hoping for some good news.
“There are conversations, and I am hoping in the next few days for an offer from a club like Liverpool,” Willian has admitted.
“If it is Liverpool, then they are a great club. The news came as a real shock, but I’m calm about it and hoping for the best, because I’ve been told they will help the players to go, if they get a good offer.
“The players have been told in six months’ time the club will move back to Makhachkala [Anzhi currently play their home games in Moscow], they will bring in more Russian players and the foreign players can go, if they get the right offers.
“It’s not true that we will be allowed to leave for nothing. But the owner has said if he gets an offer close to what he paid for the players, then they can go.
“So I am hoping there will be something from Liverpool, because England has a league that I’ve dreamed of playing in.”
Willian has played two international matches for Brazil but is currently behind Oscar in the pecking order, and believes playing in Premier League will boost his chances of getting selected for the World Cup squad.
“I think it would be good for my image. I would grow professionally in the Premier League, and it can be a showcase for me in a World Cup year,” he added.
“I know there have been some conversations, but I do not know what the valuation is.
“I have talked with the club, and we have agreed it is better I don’t play in the team at the moment, and I am hoping it will be resolved soon.”
