Former Tottenham Hotspurs player Ossie Ardiles has insisted that the England team will not get to take home another World Cup unless and until they bring about a football revolution.
The Spurs legend, who was instrumental in leading Argentina to victory in 1978, feels that the once prestigious Three Lions will have to face a thirty year dry spell if they do not make the necessary changes to the playing tactics and techniques.
One of the most respected figures in football field, not only warned them about his premonition of disaster but also slammed the standard of coaching kid in the youth setups; called FA’s new £105million St George’s Park training centre an absolute waste of resources; referred to the executives a “a toothless body full of people with no knowledge about how the game is played” and even lashed out at the poor and shoddy technical ability of some England players.
Ardiles said: “England is in a bad state. You are not going to win the World Cup for 20 or 30 years.
“You have the best league in the world but it is because you have players from all over the world.
“There are no home-grown players and there is little chance of them coming through.
“You need a revolution.
“Like the French did before they won the World Cup and European Championships — and like Spain today.”
Ardiles has capped around 230 times during the decade spent playing for Spurs after which he took up the role as their manager.
He has also spent short spells in charge of Swindon, West Brom and Newcastle.
