Buenos Aires, Dec 12 (IANS) Argentina’s Lanus defeated Brazil’s Ponte Preta 2-0 to win the Copa Sudamericana football final 3-1 on aggregate.
Ismael Blanco scored the opener on the stroke of halftime on Wednesday before Paraguay international midfielder Victor Ayala struck the home team’s second in the 69th minute, reports Xinhua.
Wednesday’s result followed a 1-1 draw in last week’s first leg in Sao Paulo, ensuring Lanus their first international trophy.
It also handed the Argentine outfit a berth in next year’s Copa Libertadores, South America’s elite club competition.
The Copa Sudamericana is the region’s second most important continental club trophy.
