Arsenal and Liverpool played out an eye-catching 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday, October 27. The result sees Liverpool remain in second place with 22 points, while the Gunners move up to third place with 18 points.
Mikel Arteta was mighty please as he could include Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber in the starting XI for this game. Saka's inclusion paid off just nine minutes into the game as he scored a thumping goal after being released by Benjamin White. However, Arsenal's lead was short-lived as Liverpool found a response soon after.
Reds' captain Virgil van Dijk nodded in from a corner as Luis Diaz flicked on Trent Alexander-Arnold's pass towards the unmarked Dutchman. Both teams kept having a go at one another in phases, but Arsenal came out on top once again before the break. This time it was Mikel Merino, who scored his first goal for the club.
The Gunners carried a narrow 2-1 advantage over Liverpool into the half-time interval.
Arsenal made a strong start to the second half as well, as they looked to keep the ball for extended spells of time. However, their performance was affected as key defenders Gabriel Magalhaes and Jurrien Timber were both subbed off due to injuries. Their replacements Jakub Kiwior and Myles Lewis-Skelly put in decent performance, but were unable to keep Liverpool out.
Mohamed Salah made a lovely run and combined with Darwin Nunez in the 81st minute as the Egyptian drew Liverpool level once again versus their rivals. Despite changes from both managers throughout the second half, neither side went on to score the winner as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
