Arsenal definitely have problems in the defensive department; as good as Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny are, they are not the best pairing in the league.
In the opening game, Koscielny’s sending off coupled with a lack of defensive cover forced some of Arsenal’s players to play in unfamiliar positions.
The presence of Ashley Williams might just solve that predicament. The defender, who is the captain of both club and country, never fails to impress during match-days. His acquisition will not only bolster the Gunners’ defensive options, but also support the attack, as he is highly effective during set piece situations.
