It is a known fact that Arsenal urgently need a striker in order to become a stronger team. The loss of Robin Van Persie left quite a hole in the team which Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski have failed to fill completely. Arsene Wenger’s team have given their best performance in almost a decade and current sit 2nd in the Barclay’s Premier League but the lack of firepower up front could seriously hurt them.
A number of targets like Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema were pursued in the summer but the only forward that landed at the club was Yaya Sanogo. Wenger is now seriously looking to add a new face to the line up and has reportedly reached an agreement with Real Madrid to sign Alvaro Morata.
Although the agreement is only verbal, Morata should feel right at home at Arsenal. Wenger has always used the attacking approach in his tactics which will suit Morata perfectly. Yaya Sanogo is beginning to look like a promising prospect and its only a matter of time before he begins to replicate his Auxerre form which saw him earn a place on the Golden Boy Award list. The prospect of Sanogo and Morata playing together look good.
Arsene Wenger has won critical acclaim for his development of young players so the young Spaniard will blossom in London. Morata should should take an example from national team-mate Gerard Deulofeu who is having a successful loan spell in England. The Barcelona starlet has made 17 appearances for temporary club Everton scoring 3 goals and looks set to stay in England for one more year. Morata should try and move to the Gunners in the early stages of the transfer window as he will get more time to interact with his team-mates and develop an understanding with them.
Morata is a youth product of Madrid but his future there is uncertain as they have a notorious reputation for buying success and not building it like arch-rivals Barcelona who have one of the best youth development centers in the world in the form of La Masia. Ever since Florentino Perez took over as president Los Blancos have spend huge amounts of money on the biggest names in football and have almost completely ignored their young players. Some promising players like Juan Mata, Alvaro Negredo and Roberto Soldado have left Madrid due to the lack of first team football and it is only a matter of time before Morata follows suit.
The 21-year-old is prolific in front of goal and has scored 45 goals in 83 appearances for Real Madrid’s B team and 12 goals in 11 starts for Spain’s Under-21 team. If he does move to Arsenal, he will need time before he becomes the great striker he is destined to be. The presence of former team mate Mesut Ozil would help this as the German was almost always involved in many of Madrid’s goals.
Real Madrid will surely ask Arsenal to shell out the money but if they can settle on a reasonable price then Morata will be a good investment for the future. Don’t be surprised if you see the young striker in the red and white of Arsenal later this year.
