Arsene Wenger feels Joel Campbell has toughened up in his time away from Arsenal and feels the player has finally come to terms with the physical demands of European football.
The Costa Rican forward netted the vital second goal for Olympiakos as they secured a famous victory over Manchester United in the Champions league, hitting a fine curling strike from 25 yards to seal the win.
Campbell is on loan from Arsenal currently in his third different league, having been loaned out to clubs in France and Spain previously and Wenger believes his young charge is adapting to European football – but refused to comment on where he will be playing next season.
Wenger told the club’s official website, “He was good, convincing going forward (Against Manchester United). He looks like he has adapted a bit better to the physical side of the European game.
“We always knew that he had the talent to create something special. He did rely a bit too much on that.
“But he’s now been out with three different clubs. He was with Lorient (in France), Real Betis (Spain) and now Olympiakos. He has learned the toughness of the European leagues.
“I will decide that (his future) later. Why not? We bought him to bring him here.”
Joel Campbell has created seven chances in just four Champions League games for Olympiakos. Only Mesut Ozil (18) has created more for Arsenal in Europe this season.
