Arsene Wenger has taken responsibility for the loss of Aaron Ramsey for a large chunk of the season, feeling that his decision to play him too frequently contributed to his (Ramsey’s) injury problems.
Ramsey was in the starting XI for the first time since Boxing Day as Arsenal eased past Hull City 3-0 at the KC Stadium – and Ramsey was pivotal to the victory as he scored one and played a major role in both of Lukas Podolski’s strikes as well.
Wenger feels that Ramsey’s absence could have been avoided and more could have been done to do so, but he was full of praise for the returning Welshman, as well as Mesut Ozil, who returned to the side following a month out of action.
Wenger told reporters, “Maybe we overplayed him a little bit. We should have rested him before he was injured.
“Ramsey and Ozil gave us a cutting edge in the final third – that makes us look more dangerous. Football is down to the quality of the players and we could see that today.
“The timing of Ozil’s passes, the incisiveness of his passing, makes you turn quickly from defence into offence and that is very important.
“We knew we had to win today. There was much more oil in the engine again. I believe we looked dangerous when we went into their half and took advantage of that.
“If you look at our individual performances all over the pitch, they were good.”
