Gunners boss Arsene Wenger claims to be ready to make an £80 million expenditure to bag Atletico Madrid’s Radamel Falcao. Preparing for a milestone change in their spending policy, the pressured boss will be allotted a ‘never-before’ budget this summer.
After a hurtful defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, Wenger said he would not only be able to meet the Atletico’s £40m selling price, given they choose to let Radamel go, but also the star striker’s £40m salary. The massive increase in budget puts the Gunners in the lead, ahead of Chelsea and Manchester City, who are ready for a face-off in today’s EPL game.
Determined to succeed, Wenger was very lucid in his thoughts concerning his contract with Arsenal which is set to end next year.
“I have never thought about throwing in the towel. I love winning, so I will carry on. I have a contract until 2014 and I will be here until then. I will make a decision on my future in 2014, not before.”
On the outclassed 3-1 defeat against Bayern, Wenger said:
“Everyone is disappointed within the club about the result but we will not allow one game to change the guidelines. We operate within them and talked about lots of things. I gave my technical report and we discussed some long-term planning”
