Having successfully tied down manager Arsene Wenger to a new deal, Arsenal are close to agreeing fresh contracts with both Per Mertesacker and Tomas Rosicky, as well as a host of key backroom staff, according to Goal.com.
The club’s chief executive yesterday confirmed that Wenger has agreed a new deal to stay at the club, before saying that the club will announce the deal “at the right time.” This has led to speculation that they could announce multiple new contracts in one sitting, as they did last season when tying down Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs and Theo Walcott down to new deals.
Goal believe that Rosicky and Mertesacker are likely to follow Wenger’s lead in staying at the club, by signing deals to keep them at the club. Rosicky is to sign a one year extension to his current deal, whilst Mertesacker is likely to sign a new three year deal.
Rosicky is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich. The Czech midfielder has made 13 league appearances this season, whilst his German teammate has played 20 times in the Premier League.
The pair are to be joined in signing new deals by the entirety of the Gunners’ backroom staff. Assistant manager Steve Bould, coach Boro Primorac, first-team coach Neil Banfield, goalkeeper coach Gerry Peyton and fitness coach Tony Colbert are all set to mirror Wenger’s contract, signing deals until 2016.
