Former Dutch International and Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp is set to be immortalized yet again after he was voted as the best Dutch player in the last 25 years, finishing ahead of some of the greatest in the game including the likes of Frank de Boer, Ronald Koeman and Phillip Cocu and Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
As a tribute to the legendary forward, it was confirmed that a statue would be build in the Netherlands in his honour. The announcement was made by Michael van Praag, the Federal President of the Dutch Football Association who said, “All the five nominated ex-internationals are worth a statue based on their merit for Dutch football.”
“Bergkamp was a footballer with a fabulous technique, always had an eye for the through ball and was the master of the final pass. The Dutch public has enjoyed many of his matches in Orange,” he added. “He, therefore, fits excellently with the other ex-internationals already in the Orange Hall of Fame.”
This will be the second time Bergkamp will be getting his own statue after his former club, Arsenal had unveiled a statue of him outside the Emirates Stadium earlier this year.
