Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina is subject to interest from Premier League side Arsenal after his preferred switch to Napoli fell through, according to the Express.
Reina has been at Liverpool since the summer of 2005, but he spent the 2013/14 season on-loan at Napoli as Brendan Rodgers decided he was surplus to requirements.
The arrival of Simon Mignolet in the summer prompted the Spanish international to leave the club on-loan and there were reports that Napoli were set to make the Spaniard’s deal permanent, however, Reina’s wages, coupled with the asking price from Liverpool, is too steep for the Italians.
Reina was number one at the club ever since signing in 2005, but his performances began to drop and Brendan Rodgers took notice. The Northern Irishman drafted in Simon Mignolet in the summer of 2013 and said at first that the Belgian had been brought in to fight with Reina for the number one jersey.
However, within weeks, Reina left the club on loan to Napoli to reunite with former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez.
Arsenal are now lining up a move after Napoli pulled out and Arsene Wenger is keen on recruiting a goalkeeper to compete with Wojciech Szczesny. Arsenal have been linked with Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall, but Wenger is now eying up Reina.
