When it comes to transfers, every window for Arsenal fans is an exciting one. The season is full of hope, with fans optimistic of their club signing the best talents and finally win the League. But the same old story continues every year as Arsenal endure another miserable season in the transfer market.
While they have certainly made a decent signing in Granit Xhaka, the fans wouldn’t be too happy about the signings of Rob Holding and Takuma Asano. The Gunners are currently keen on signing a marquee player, that fans believe any story that suggests that Arsenal might buy a player.
News broke out a couple of weeks ago that Arsenal were interested in signing Riyad Mahrez from the Foxes.
Riyad Mahrez was PFA’s best footballer, was awarded “Algerian Player of the Year” and was named as a member of the Premier League PFA Team of the Year. The Algerian winger scored 17 goals during the English Premier League season 2015-16 and also gave several assists to guide his team to the title.
After having failed to lure Jamie Vardy to North London, the Gunners turned their eye to his teammate. Mahrez had been a supposed target for Arsene Wenger, and on paper, it certainly seemed like he would bolster Arsenal’s attacking options.
Gunners all around the world were eager to see Mahrez in an Arsenal shirt when he said that he would leave Leicester City only if two or three top clubs come calling. Sadly, Mahrez penned a new contract extension keeping him till Leicester City until 2020 and Asad suddenly witnessed the value of his shirt dwindle to zero in no time.
He had to soon deal with his embarrassment and jokingly put up his new Mahrez shirt for sale before deleting the tweet and said that he would send the shirt to a charity shop.
This incident is a clear reminder of the idiom ‘Cart before the horse’ and if you’re an Arsenal fan still hoping for another signing, Wenger certainly has the cart before his horse.
