Arsene Wenger is considering a move for out of favour Petr Cech to shore up Arsenal’s defence, according to reports.
A figure of £7million is being rumoured to be enough to entice the Czech international goalie accross London to join the Gunners. Cech, for the first time in his illustrios career at Chelsea, finds himself as tha back-up goalkeeper. The honour of being Jose Mourinho’s first choice now has been passed on to young Belgian Thibaut Courtois, who took over from Cech earlier this summer after arriving from a successful three years on loan at Altetico Madrid.
Arsenal signed Colombian World Cup star David Ospina from Ligue 1 side Nice earlier this summer as cover for the departed Lukasz Fabianski, but the South American is yet to get a fair crack in the goal for the Gunners.
Wenger is thought to be actively pursuing the signature of the 32-year old Cech to add quality competition at the back for Wojciech Szczesny as Chelsea look set to let the experienced campaigner go in order to get more first team football.
Cech has only made a total of three appearances for the Blues this season, filling in for Courtois, whilst he was out with a head injry during a spell in October.
Arsenal are yet to find a real stable hand at the back ever since the departure of Jens Lehmann, which now seems to be ages ago. Will the addition of a 32-year old Petr Cech help achieve that? Will Chelsea allow another of their star to join a rival like Juan Mata? Only time will tell.
