After the departure of Bacary Sagna, Arsenal are looking for a right back in the transfer market. The Gunners are currently linked with Serge Aurier of Ivory Coast, but if the deal fails to go through, they are looking to bid for Newcastle United’s right back Mathieu Debuchy. Debuchy is favored over Bacary Sagna in the French National Team by Didier Deschamps and he could be the perfect player to fit in Arsenal’s defence. Metro reports that Arsene Wenger might make official bid for the Magpies’ defender.
There were reports in the press prior to FIFA World Cup 2014 that Arsenal have already agreed terms with Serge Aurier & the defender even showed his desire to join the North London club but his performances in the World Cup have attracted interest from Paris Saint Germain and in case the Gunners miss the target, they want to bolster their defence as soon as possible by signing the quality fullback.
Mathieu Debuchy is on Arsene Wenger’s radar since his playing days at LOSC Lille. The 28 year old defender joined Magpies in January of 2013 and since then have been a starter in Alan Pardew’s team. The defender could be on his way out of the St James’ Park after admitiing how much he misses the UEFA Champions League football. The right back has been consistent performer in Newcastle’s depleted squad and would be looking to follow the footsteps of his French compatriot Yohan Cabaye by opting to move away from the club to join Ligue 1 Champions Paris Saint Germain but if he wants to taste Champions League nights in England itself, the North London clubs is the ideal destination.
