After reports in the media linked Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere to arch rivals Manchester City, the English midfielder was quick to reject any such claims. Reports linked the 23-year-old midfielder to the Citizens who are desperate to fill their squad with ‘home-grown’ players.
Wilshere made his debut for Arsenal when he was only 16 and is a home-grown player having spent his entire football career in England. With players like Frank Lampard, James Milner and Micah Richards leaving the Manchester club, they are currently short of such players.
I grew up at Arsenal: Wilshere
When asked about the reports, Wilshere said: “I definitely wouldn't go somewhere just because I'm a home-grown player.
“I'd want to be wanted by a club, I want to be wanted by Arsenal. I've grown up at Arsenal. As long as Arsenal want me, I'm happy."
Even Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has rubbished any such talk of a Wilshere move away from North London.
When asked about the situation last month, Wenger had said, “What do you mean by that? Is it a contract story? Is it? He knows he is wanted.
In spite of missing large parts of the season in the past, Wenger sees the midfielder’s quality and expects him to deliver in the future
"We always stood by him through every difficult moment,” Wenger said. “Does that mean we want him to stay here for a longer period? Yes.”
