It’s that time of the year again, the transfer window is open. Arsenal are sitting at the top of the table going into the second half of the season. After an uncomfortable win against Cardiff City in the Premier League on New Year’s Day will Arsene Wenger look to strengthen his side to push for silverware?
Here, I look at three players who Wenger should buy to strengthen his side..
3. Javier Hernandez (Manchester United)
One area in which Arsenal should strengthen is upfront, as Oliver Giroud is the Gunners’ only real main striker following Nicklas Bendtner’s ankle injury. The Mexican international is Manchester United’s fourth choice forward behind Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck. David Moyes chose to play an unfit Wayne Rooney, who hadn’t trained all week, ahead of Hernandez in there New Year’s Day clash with Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford. Hernandez has a very good scoring record in the Premier League, but is frustrated by the lack of opportunities and must be looking towards the exit door especially with the World Cup in mind.
2. Juan Mata (Chelsea)
Juan Mata is someone Wenger is very fond off. The Spaniard has an undoubtedly great talent and would bring something special to the Arsenal midfield. Wenger is having problems selected his starting midfield due to the wealth of talent already at The Emirates but I’m sure if there was a chance the Gunners could sign Mata, the Arsenal boss would bid for the 25-year-old. The former Valencia man wasn’t pleased after being substituted against Southampton and Jose Mourinho stated in his post match press conference “I want to keep him. I don’t want him to go. That is my opinion, my wish, but my door is open”.
1. Demba Ba (Chelsea)
According to reports, Arsenal tried to sign Demba Ba in the summer transfer window but were turned down by Chelsea as they didn’t want to sell or loan out there players to another title challenging side. However, Chelsea may not have the final decision as the Senegalese international has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge, as the Blues brought in another striker in Samuel Eto’o. The 28-year-old would be a perfect second choice forward for Arsenal, as Ba could come on with 20-30 minutes left and make an impact, also if Giroud gets injured he’ll be the ideal replacement to start as he has a wealth of Premier League experience.
