Arsenal Women’s Club have picked up the 2013 FA Cup trophy after delivering a crushing blow to Bristol Academy, winning their six FA Cup in 8 years and their 12th overall, restoring the natural order of events in the process.

Their failure to make it to the 2012 FA Cup final broke their six year winning streak. After having been written off, the team managed to bounce back in style to claim the prize.

Manager Shelley Kerr said, “The expectations within our club are as high as those outside and today the girls were absolutely magnificent. We dominated for long periods and the win was well deserved. It’s important that as a club we continue to win trophies, so I’m extremely delighted for everybody concerned.”

Steph Houghton, the captain of the team, secured an early goal which when combined with the strikes made by Jordan Nobbs and Ellen White, ensured the team an easy 3-0 victory against Super League toppers Bristol Academy. Arsenal managed to dominate both halves of the game in front of a turnout of 4,988 spectators at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium.
