According to the Daily Express, Arsenal are considering offering £50million to Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in order to permanently acquire star forward Edinson Cavani in the closing stages of the transfer window.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been left desperately short of options up front due to an ankle injury to Olivier Giroud which has ruled him out of action until the start of next year, and he is looking into the prospect of bringing in the Uruguayan forward.
It is believed that PSG, although reluctant to let go of a player they acquired for a colossal fee of around €64.5million just a season ago, are prepared to do business with Arsenal provided the bid lodged for Cavani is at the right price.
Cavani was known to be unhappy in France as he was played out of his usual position quite often owing to Zlatan Ibrahimovic last season, and the 29-year-old reportedly contacted both Manchester United and Chelsea, earlier this summer, with a view of plying his trade in the English Premier League.
It seemed as if Cavani would perhaps have a bigger role to play for PSG this season when Ibrahimovic suffered an injury during a pre-season game, with reports of Ibrahimovic facing a lengthy lay-off. But his injury is nowhere near as serious as initially feared, and PSG will not be as averse to selling Cavani as they would’ve been then.
